Sri Chamarajendra Park

Although the name has been changed, even now the park is popularly known as Cubbon Park. Later in the year 1927, the name Cubbon Park was again changed to Sri Chamarajendra Park. Initially spread over an area of 100 acres, the park was later expanded to around 300 acres of land. However, later the park was renamed as Cubbon Park in the memory of Sir Mark Cubbon who was then the longest serving commissioner.

Is there an entry fee for Cubbon Park?

Once you are outside the station, on your right you will see the entry gate of Cubbon park. Chamarajendra Park, in memory of the 19th-century ruler of the state Sri Chamarajendra Wodeyar (1868–94), during whose rule the park came into existence. Iyer Hall, with a rose garden in front, is another historic building, which now houses the State Central Library alias Seshadri Iyer Memorial Library.

It was later called as Palace Zoological gardens. Primarily this zoo was called as 'Khasa Bangle' or ‘Private Bungalow’ and used to be a unique zoo which was spread over an area of 10 acres, housing different kinds of birds. It is known for breeding of rare animals which is a feature present in very few other zoos in the world. Mysore zoo also had record number of housing various avian species, which are more than 40 other countries in the world.
